Case study details

One Mount is Vietnam’s largest technological ecosystem, providing solutions and services along the entire value chain for sectors including financial services, distribution, real estate, and retail. Solutions like its dedicated retail app, VinID, and its one-stop housing needs platform, OneHousing, have quickly built strong reputations and helped the organization establish a wide-reaching client base.

As leaders in Vietnam’s technology market, One Mount understands just how important L&D is to keeping its people knowledgeable — and delivering reliable services to clients.

A need to stay on top of a fast-moving market

Operating at the cutting edge of Vietnam’s technology market, One Mount’s people must continuously expand their knowledge to deliver the best possible customer service. But with employees’ diverse backgrounds, one-size-fit-all technical classroom training with a reliance on external vendors didn’t work. And the pandemic only created additional challenges.

As the demand for L&D grew in One Mount, the company needed to find a solution that could scale to meet its teams’ needs for convenient and personalized learning experience.

“We surveyed our people to get their preferences for a potential learning platform and Udemy Business was overwhelmingly the most popular option,” explains Hanh Phi – Acting Talent Development Director at One Mount. “Our employees really guided us.”

Bitesize content scaled to hundreds of people

One Mount uses Udemy Business to deliver on-demand learning resources for the organization’s employees with ease. Using Udemy Business, One Mount can easily deliver bitesize, digestible content to its people across a diverse range of topics — from PMP, Google Cloud and other technical certifications to soft business skills.

“For me, it’s really the quality of the content in Udemy Business. Unlike other learning content providers who rely solely on university practitioners, Udemy Business’ courses are run by people with industry experience,” explains Hanh. “Our people also have very different gaps in their knowledge and skillsets, so Udemy Business’ diverse content library is really beneficial.”

Udemy Business also seamlessly integrates with One Mount’s existing LMS, enabling the company to deliver a complete, easy-to-access learning ecosystem for its teams. In 2022, One Mount’s Employee Opinion Survey showed that all drivers related to Opportunities & Development increased, in part thanks to the Talent Development team and HR Division’s innovative approach to learning.

A structured approach to L&D

The content on Udemy Business directly supports the development paths of One Mount’s people, as it’s tied to specific learning roadmap for each employee.

“We have competency frameworks for our employees that outline what’s required of people in their roles and the skills they need to learn,” explains Hanh. “Using Udemy Business, we can recommend courses specifically related to these frameworks and show people the content they need to study to progress in their roles.”

One Mount makes these content recommendations by building customized Learning Paths — essentially, course playlists suited to employees’ individual development plans or their wider team’s operations.

“Most of our employees using Udemy Business are in our technology division and take courses related to programming languages like Java, Golang and certifications like Google Cloud,” says Hanh.”But other non-tech functions like Data, Product Development, Project Management, Operations and Marketing also have found value in the platform. We’ve seen an uptake in courses about leadership skills and public speaking, and people also use it for exam prep like PMP, ISTQB.”

Having Udemy Business as part of our LMS is very convenient. We can easily get detailed insights about our teams’ learning behaviors and share courses. Being innovators in our industry is very demanding, but Udemy Business helps us continuously improve our capabilities, easily.

Changing the way people learn

Crucially, One Mount has completely changed the way its people learn and progress in their careers using Udemy Business.

“Our employees now have much better learning experiences. Every time they need to build new knowledge, they can learn anywhere, anytime, all at their own convenience,” says Hanh. “It would cost us a lot to continuously bring in external trainers — Udemy Business is a much more efficient and scalable approach.”

“Apart from technical skills, soft skills and leadership competencies play a key role in the success of One Mount,” says Hanh. Udemy Business has even helped One Mount change the way it does classroom training. Now, employees can learn essential information ahead of in-person classes, freeing up more time for open discussions.

“We organize training sessions that focus on soft skills and leadership competencies. We often utilize Udemy’s course “Speak like a Pro” to assist our employees in learning various aspects of presentation and communication skills before they participate in a classroom session on topics like Pitching or Training Skills for Internal Trainers,” says Huong Nguyen, Senior Talent Development Specialist. This approach saves the trainers a significant amount of time and provides learners with essential background knowledge prior to joining the class. As a result, this enhances the productivity and efficiency of in-class discussions and activities.

Pushing a learning culture across the entire organization

Moving forward, One Mount is focused on encouraging a learning culture across all its teams.

“Udemy has really helped us develop a learning culture where everybody is accountable for their learning and proactive in finding their right learning content,” says Huong.

“We want our people to not only learn for themselves but actively share the knowledge they learn. Many employees at One Mount like to share what they have learned from Udemy and applied successfully with their peers, which helps to boost the learning and sharing culture,” explains Huong.

The company also uses Udemy Business to support other organization-wide initiatives, such as One Mount’s push towards Agile operations or One Mount’s Internal Innovation Initiatives.

Innovation is something that’s really big for us, but our people have varying knowledge gaps. That’s where Udemy Business is really valuable — people can learn in an active, personalized manner based on their needs.
