Case study details

Technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace, reshaping how enterprises compete, innovate, and create value. For technology consulting firms like Apexon, staying ahead means continuously building the skills needed to help clients navigate this change with confidence.

For more than three decades, Apexon has helped organizations accelerate business transformation by combining deep engineering expertise with emerging technologies. As the company evolved into an AI-native technology services provider, it recognized that sustaining this leadership required a scalable, future-ready approach to learning and capability development.

With Udemy Business, Apexon has rapidly upskilled over 80% of its employees, enabling the company to reduce external hiring, lower training costs, strengthen talent retention, and build a highly skilled AI-ready workforce.

Bringing technology consulting into the AI age

Apexon was formed through the merger of five distinct organizations, each with its own approach to learning and development. While learning initiatives existed across the business, there was no unified framework.

“When we started, we didn’t really have one fabric that bound us all together,” said Rohin, Director and Global Head of Talent Management and Development at Apexon. “We wanted a learning platform that was holistic, future-ready, and offered content our people could genuinely relate to.”

At the same time, the technology landscape was undergoing rapid transformation. As AI reshaped enterprise priorities, organizations needed to strengthen their data foundations, adopt the right AI technologies, and equip their people with new skills to deliver greater business value.

For Apexon, this shift was already visible. Data and AI services had grown to represent nearly 40% of its work, making capability building a strategic business imperative.

“We started to redefine Apexon as an AI-native technology services company,” Rohin said. “Our size gives us the agility to adapt quickly, build accelerators, and help clients move faster than many of our competitors. To do that successfully, we needed to rapidly upskill our own experts and prepare them to lead that transformation.”

At Apexon, our ambition is not simply to prepare people for the jobs they have today, but to build the capability to thrive in the work of tomorrow — to learn, unlearn and apply faster as the world changes.

Apexon builds AI capability through Communities of Practice with Udemy Business

As Apexon accelerated its transformation into an AI-native technology services company, it recognized that building AI capability at scale would require more than traditional learning. The company needed a platform that could deepen technical expertise, strengthen industry knowledge, and enable continuous learning across the organization.

“We evaluated platforms that could do two things for us,” said Rohin. “First, we wanted something that could truly elevate our technical capabilities through deep, high-quality content. Second, we needed strong domain expertise that would help our teams better support clients across industries.”

Apexon knew that surface-level knowledge wouldn’t be a differentiator; the depth of its people’s knowledge and skills would. Udemy Business met those requirements through its breadth of technical content, AI-focused curriculum, flexible learning paths, intuitive learner experience, and the ability to support employees at every stage of their careers.

Today, over 90% of Apexon’s employees use Udemy Business as part of structured Communities of Practice (CoPs) Learning Journey, spanning Generative AI, Agentic AI, AI Agents, Large Language Models (LLMs), Cognitive architecture and other emerging technologies.

More than 50% of learners apply their knowledge to projects

Since using Udemy Business, Apexon has seen more than 50% of its users apply what they’ve learned to real life projects. As a result, the company has reduced its external hiring dependency, and seen a 33% increase in fulfilling client demand through internal talent. In parallel, 30% of its workforce is now delivering at higher revenue realization rates.

Capability development has been equally significant. Through structured learning and upskilling, Apexon has built a growing community of AI experts. Two-thirds (65%) of its workforce are now AI engineers, 20% are AI architects, and 15% are AI orchestrators, creating the expertise needed to meet the rapidly evolving demands of clients.

The benefits extend beyond capability building, too. Apexon has reduced annual employee attrition while lowering internal training costs by 15%, demonstrating that strategic investment in learning can strengthen both talent retention and operational efficiency.

Our partnership with Udemy is helping us move from learning AI to engineering with AI, and from individual upskilling to enterprise-wide AI fluency.

Expanding Communities of Practice

As Apexon continues its AI-native transformation, the company plans to expand its Communities of Practice, further personalize learning journeys, and evolve its workforce capabilities to meet the changing demands of technology and consulting.

“Many of our people’s roles are changing fundamentally as technology evolves,” Shrikant, Manager Technical Learning said. “Our next step is to make learning and upskilling more personal. We already have internal assessments in place, and we’re now building individual development plans that will help every employee develop the skills they need for the future.”

For Apexon, Udemy Business has become more than a learning platform. It has enabled the company to respond quickly to industry change while building the capabilities needed for long-term growth.

“Continuous skills development is embedded in our ethos,” Mitali Banerjee, Senior Manager of Talent Development said. “Udemy has helped us adapt in real time to changing market demands. It’s given us greater visibility into our roles and capabilities, enabled us to personalize development at scale, and become more deliberate about building the skills our business needs. That has become a real differentiator for us—and it will continue to play an important role in our transformation.”

As AI continues to reshape our industry, Udemy has played a key role in accelerating our talent transformation through curated learning that enables our associates to acquire future-ready skills in a short span of time.
