Preparing people for a changing world of work

Assurant is committed to helping employees learn, grow, and thrive while building the capabilities that enable stronger performance and greater impact. As work and technology evolve, the organization saw an opportunity to create a more connected approach to capability building, linking development, career growth, mentoring, succession, and talent decisions through a common language of skills.

Assurant established a clear direction: create an enterprise skills framework, connect it to talent and development experiences, and use technology and strategic partnerships to make those experiences more relevant, accessible, and scalable.

“The goal is broader than delivering learning. It is to build the capabilities employees, and the business need today while creating a foundation that can evolve for what comes next.” said Serpil Gazko-Serfaty, Director, Enterprise Learning, Assurant

Building a connected skills ecosystem

Assurant’s three-tier Enterprise Skills Framework provides a common language for capability across the organization. Power Skills represent enduring human capabilities such as communication, adaptability, empathy, curiosity, and problem solving. Job-Specific Skills reflect the expertise required within individual roles and functions, while Next-Generation Skills, including AI Fluency, prepare employees for emerging ways of working.

The framework anchors a broader ecosystem that includes Power Skills pathways, AI Academy learning journeys, technical upskilling, mentoring, leadership development, and targeted role-based initiatives.

Udemy is an integral partner in bringing this strategy to life at scale. Its breadth of high-quality, relevant content augments Assurant-designed programs and pathways and gives the organization greater flexibility to respond to evolving capability needs across roles, functions, and geographies.

Employees are encouraged to take ownership of their development, with managers playing an active role through coaching, development conversations, and mentoring. Assurant provides the framework and experiences that connect development to broader talent and business priorities.

“At Assurant, we help our people learn, grow, and thrive. Skills provide a common language for development, career growth, and talent decisions, helping us build the capabilities our business needs today while preparing for tomorrow,” said Gazko-Serfaty.

Turning skills into capability

As Assurant has built this foundation, Udemy has been an important partner in helping scale relevant development across the enterprise, contributing to measurable progress in four areas:

• Scaling skills development: More than 80% of Assurant employees—12,000+ people—have engaged in Power Skills development powered by Udemy content, helping establish a shared language for capability across the organization.

• Strengthening the development experience: In Assurant’s 2026 engagement survey, Growth-Learning scored in the top 10% and Manager Support in the top 5% compared with the professional services benchmark.

• Expanding mentoring at scale: Assurant matched 151 mentees and 97 mentors based on skill strengths and needs across 17 countries, a fivefold increase in scale from the previous year, with eNPS of +68 among mentees and +70 among mentors.

• Connecting skills across the talent ecosystem: Skills now provide a common foundation across employee, manager, and leadership development and are increasingly being applied across mentoring, targeted upskilling, and broader talent and capability practices.

These results represent meaningful progress while also providing a foundation Assurant can continue to strengthen as business and workforce needs evolve.
