Scaling learning across 14 countries

Founded in Italy in 2003, BIP Group is a leading multinational consulting company with more than 6,500 employees across 14 countries. As BIP grew rapidly and market demands accelerated around AI, sustainability, and client expectations, its existing learning model could not keep pace. The company needed to scale learning globally while remaining locally relevant, accelerate capability building, and create a global Industry Knowledge offering to support its growth.

BIP operates across 14 countries with a workforce spanning consultants through to partners. Its Global Learning Strategy, delivered through the Global Competence Center on Learning & People Development (BIP.Edu), is built around a 5-stage career path and a framework of 23 competencies. But as BIP grew and market transformation accelerated, three structural ceilings emerged.

First, scalability and localization: every course was a virtual classroom delivered by a named facilitator, with hard capacity caps of 15 to 35 learners. Scheduling, language localization, and facilitator availability limited the ability to serve a global workforce.

Second, coverage depth: the catalog was concentrated at Foundation and Expertise levels, with thinner offerings for the Mastery, Leadership, and Partnership stages critical to guiding transformation.

Third, an industry knowledge gap: despite deep expertise across Financial Services, Life Sciences, Sustainability, Cybersecurity, and AI-driven innovation, there was no centralized, systematic learning offering on vertical industry knowledge.

“Without a platform like Udemy, we had no way to access high-quality, market-aligned content fast enough to keep pace with our diverse business needs,” said Pradnya Desai, Global Learning & People Development Lead.

A three-track co-owned learning ecosystem

BIP launched the BIP.Edu × Udemy Business initiative in January 2025 with strong executive sponsorship across senior leadership. The approach unfolded in three deliberate phases: Design and Governance, Discovery and Content Curation, and Rollout, Adoption, and Scale.

The decisive design choice was a three-track subject-matter expert (SME) architecture that made the curriculum co-owned rather than centrally pushed:

Vertical Expertise track: business representatives from each industry and Center of Excellence, bridging business needs and learning design
Transversal and Governance track: HR local SMEs covering life skills, leadership, and communication competencies
Global Markets track: partners and country delegates building a brand-new Industry Knowledge catalog across six priority industries

More than 30 senior stakeholders across business, HR, and governance served as active co-owners. A 10- to 12-week Strategic Content Curation program with the Udemy customer success manager (CSM) and Curation team produced 225 curated courses mapped to the 23 competencies, delivered through custom Content Workbooks, a Strategic Blueprint, and Learning Paths inside the Udemy Business instance.

“Learning was no longer positioned as a catalog pushed by BIP.Edu, but as a business-led capability-building initiative shaped by the people closest to client, market, and country priorities, with Udemy as the backbone,” Desai said.

The global go-live on July 1, 2025 gave every BIPer in every country same-day access, with no phased exclusions. Country-specific kick-offs were localized in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. Single sign-on (SSO) was active from day one, and change management was treated as a product, complete with a 50-second teaser video, SharePoint hub, 20-minute interactive manual, 12-item FAQ, and dedicated helpdesk.

Result: 85% adoption and $2M in certification savings

In the first 12 months after go-live, the initiative delivered measurable outcomes across catalog depth, industry knowledge, and global reach. BIP curated 225 courses, three times the contractual baseline of 75, and mapped them all to the 23-competency framework. A brand-new Global Markets category covering six priority industries was created from scratch, capabilities that did not exist in the 2024 learning offering.

Adoption reached 72% in the first three months and 85% after a year, with 6,621 Udemy licenses activated across the organization. Since activation in April 2025 (beginning with SME test users), learners have logged 32,282 total hours watched through June 2026, with 91% of users active on the platform. The average rating is 4.4 out of 5 based on 7,817 ratings, and 85.3% of users found Udemy Business helpful.

The certification story is particularly impactful: 1,131 learners used Udemy for certification preparation, saving more than $2 million, with roughly one in five employees leveraging the platform. Custom Learning Paths can now be created in days at near-zero delivery cost, supported by the Udemy AI Assistant.

“With Udemy Business, we moved from reacting after a gap appears to building capability ahead of demand, and the numbers prove it,” Desai said.

Deepening the ecosystem

BIP is connecting learning data to the end-of-year performance process, closing the loop between learning, recognition, and evaluation. The Udemy AI Assistant will continue to accelerate curation, and BIP plans to use Udemy data assets, including Search Demand signals and Surging Topics, to proactively build learning paths before formal requests arise.

“As we deepen this ecosystem, Udemy gives us confidence that we can keep pace with the technology curve and continue making learning a strategic lever for growth,” Desai said.
