Challenge
Building a baseline for 420,000 employees
Capgemini is an AI-powered global business and technology transformation partner, delivering tangible business value. With nearly 60 years of heritage, the company has more than 420,000 team members in more than 50 countries. Capgemini delivers end-to-end services and solutions applying deep industry expertise across strategy, technology, design, engineering, and business operations. The company reported 2025 global revenues of 22.5 billion euros.
Capgemini faced a clear business reality: AI had already become part of how employees work – enhancing individual productivity, strengthening team collaboration and transforming how they deliver for clients – but the organization needed to move from awareness to adoption at scale. The challenge was to move employees beyond casual AI experimentation and unlock AI’s full potential through confident, responsible and consistent use in everyday work.
At the same time, learning assets were spread across platforms, communities, tools and teams, creating friction for employees and limiting the ability to scale capability-building across a global workforce of more than 420,000. Employees needed one place to build the AI skills required today and continue growing for the future—from foundational knowledge to advanced capability—while turning learning into meaningful business behavior, not passive consumption.
“We needed to move from AI awareness to adoption at scale, and Udemy gave us the foundation to build a validated baseline of AI capability across the organization,” said Estelle Maione, Head of Group Learning and Development.

Solution
A unified AI campus and the ACTIVATE badge program
Capgemini built a layered ecosystem rather than a single training push. The AI Campus serves as the unified home for AI learning, bringing together foundation learning, role-based and skill-based pathways, prompting practice, partner content from providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, AWS, Google, Microsoft, and internally developed capabilities. Available through the NEXT learning platform powered by Degreed, the AI Campus gives every employee a single entry point for AI learning.
Within AI Campus, ACTIVATE provides the structured, practice-first learning architecture, organized around three offerings:
• AI for Productivity: helps employees build core AI skills and apply them in daily work with tools such as Copilot and prompting
• AI for Delivery: develops role-relevant AI capabilities for client-facing and delivery contexts through company assets, partner certifications, and applied learning
• AI for Enterprise: deepens expertise in enterprise AI solutions and technologies, including areas such as OpenAI and Anthropic
The AI Foundation badge establishes the baseline for all employees. Learners complete core AI learning covering AI literacy, agentic AI, prompt engineering, ethics, responsible AI, and practical tool use, then pass an assessment with a score of 80% or more. Udemy issues the badge once requirements are completed, creating a visible and validated baseline of AI capability. The badge framework progresses employees from AI Foundation to AI Savvy, AI Practitioner, AI Advanced, and AI Expert, treating AI as a maturity progression rather than a single event.
Prompt Battles extend the strategy into applied practice. These facilitator-led sessions give teams repeated opportunities to practice prompting in realistic business scenarios, bridging the gap between learning and day-to-day application.
“By issuing the AI Foundation badge through Udemy, we created a validated standard for AI literacy that scales across more than 420,000 employees,” Maione said.

Looking Ahead
Expanding ACTIVATE
Capgemini continues to expand the ACTIVATE badge framework, with additional badge levels and business-owned activation formats planned. The program supports the company’s 2026 commitment to reach more than 180,000 employees with a valid AI accreditation, making AI capability part of a broader enterprise priority.
“As we extend ACTIVATE beyond foundational AI into specialized domains and business-owned activation formats, Udemy Business gives us the flexibility to scale new learning pathways as fast as our clients’ needs evolve,” Maione said.
