Building capacity ahead of demand
Finacle, a unit of EdgeVerve Systems and wholly owned subsidiary of Infosys (NYSE: INFY), is an industry leader in digital banking solutions. The company partners with financial institutions worldwide to inspire better banking. Its cloud-native, componentized suite addresses core banking, lending, payments, treasury, analytics, AI, and blockchain needs. Deployable on any cloud, its solutions help banks in over 100 countries serve more than a billion people and millions of businesses.
The traditional campus hiring model couldn’t close the capability gap at Finacle. Fresh engineering graduates needed six months of generic technology training followed by six months of Finacle product training before they were production-ready. Enablement costs were high with limited transparency on return, trainers and line managers were stretched across fragmented batches, and with few Finacle-skilled professionals available in the lateral market, a pure “buy from market” strategy was both expensive and unsustainable.
Finacle set out to eliminate the training lag entirely: graduates joining production-ready from Day 1, with capability built proactively 12 to 18 months ahead of business demand, a measurable reduction in enablement cost, and an inclusive, skills-first pipeline that selects on demonstrated capability rather than cumulative grade point average (CGPA), branch, or academic history.
“Our traditional campus hiring model required a full 12 months of post-joining training before graduates could be deployed on billable work. We needed to build capability ahead of demand, and a platform like Udemy was essential to making that possible at scale,” said S. Karthik VR, Business Manager, Learning.

A pre-hire learning pipeline
The Finacle Learning Community (FLC) shifts the entire enablement journey into the final three semesters of engineering college. FLC begins with 5th-semester roadshows across partner colleges, followed by skill-based selection, including an online coding challenge and live coding before an expert panel for the Product Development & Architecture (PDA) stream and a technical fundamentals assessment for the Delivery, Testing & Support (DTS) stream. No CGPA, branch, or backlog filters apply.
Selected students commit about 15 hours a week of structured evening training on campus through the 6th and 7th semesters, alongside a full behavioral curriculum covering communication, collaboration, design thinking, and professional readiness. The program follows the 70:20:10 learning model (70% experiential, 20% social, 10% formal): instructor-led training delivers the “10,” and Udemy-powered self-directed learning together with line-manager mentoring delivers the “20.” A paid six-month 8th-semester internship on live Finacle projects activates the “70.”
The model is built on four key elements:
• Selection to the program based on skills: Selection is skill-based, full stop: no CGPA cutoffs, no branch filters, no backlog screens. If students can code or reason through technical fundamentals, they are considered.
• A deep, structured curriculum: Students commit to a 330-hour PDA track or a 304-hour DTS track, both delivered at a tight 25:1 student-trainer ratio so no one slips through the cracks.
• Udemy as the foundation: Udemy is the self-directed learning backbone, letting students reinforce classroom topics and explore emerging technologies well beyond the fixed curriculum, at their own pace.
• On-the-job support. Internship mentors drawn from line managers work under a federated governance model co-owned by HR, L&D, and business leaders, so the pipeline has real owners, not just goodwill.
“Udemy is the self-directed learning backbone of the blend. Every FLC student gets Udemy access to reinforce classroom topics on demand and explore emerging technologies well beyond the fixed curriculum,” Karthik said.
The rollout has been phased across four batches, growing from 156 learners in Batch 1 to 302 in the current Batch 4, with 887 learners in total. Batch 4 also marks a strategic expansion: a first dedicated AI cohort of 21 students, following a specialized track in Python, data science, and machine learning, with Udemy as its primary frontier-content layer.

Day-1-ready engineers
Within the first three batches, 575 students already converted into production-ready full-time hires deployed on billable work from Day 1. The initiative has delivered about 235% ROI and cut enablement-related spend by roughly 70% versus the traditional training model. Over 150,000 productive person-days were unlocked in year one, converting a full non-billable training year per hire into revenue-generating work.
New-hire satisfaction reached 98.3% NPS from 156 reporting managers, with not a single concern raised on readiness or quality. Attrition fell to 4% for the 2026 batch, far below entry-level industry norms. Each intern is mapped to a real team and manager during the 8th semester, and production readiness is formally signed off by the business before the offer converts.
“Managers no longer ask when a new hire will be ready; readiness is certified before Day 1. With Udemy embedded in the learning ecosystem, our graduates arrive product-fluent and already trusted with production-grade code,” Karthik said.

Looking Ahead
Scaling the model
As the model scales and the dedicated AI track grows, learner behavior will continue to shape curriculum refreshes across the PDA and DTS streams.
“As we extend the FLC architecture to MBA talent and to certification journeys for client and partner organizations, Udemy gives us confidence that the ‘explore and stay current’ layer of our learning ecosystem will always keep pace with the technology curve,” Karthik said.
