2014 Skills Gap Index
We know what employers, economists, and politicians think of the skills gap. What do workers think?
Please Mind the Perception Gap
As part of Udemy’s ongoing research into the thoughts, perceptions, and attitudes of today’s working adults, we’re interested in whether Americans feel personally affected by the skills gap, whether companies are doing enough to help employees maintain relevant skills, and how workers are responding to the skills economy.
Key Findings
- 61% of Americans believe that today’s workforce is plagued by a skills gap
- More than a third believe they use less than 10% of what they learned in college to do their jobs
- A majority of millennials (53%) believe they’ve already mastered the skills their jobs require, compared to 43% of Baby Boomers
