Dettagli del caso di studio
Offering wide-ranging digital services from application development to cyber security for over 1,200 clients worldwide, Ciklum prides itself on inspiring its people to innovate and create. But like any business with a globally-spread workforce, just 4 years ago, Ciklum found it difficult to maintain a consistent, comprehensive, and quick-to-react learning and development (L&D) program — essential attributes for modern software development. Ciklum needed an online L&D solution to help its people quickly reskill and upskill in the latest technical competencies while also allowing them to carve their own career paths.
An inconsistent, localized L&D program across widespread development teams
Every developer knows that to stay at the leading edge of technology and software advances takes constant upskilling — including planning future skills requirements long before they’re needed. But without a consistent and comprehensive L&D program to support large and widespread development teams, maintaining these skills can be a significant challenge. And if organisations can’t solve this challenge, they risk losing out to more agile competitors and even negatively impacting employee career progression.
Before its L&D program transformation, this was the challenge faced by multinational digital services provider, Ciklum. With a reliance on formal, in-person training, Ciklum’s L&D team noticed that learning was disparate and locally-driven — negatively affecting company-wide consistency.
To redress the L&D balance across the company — including reducing its reliance on inefficient in-person training — Ciklum needed an online learning solution that could offer a broad range of the latest technical courses on-demand, and eliminate the need to wait to physically attend particular courses.

Thousands of the latest technical courses — available on demand
Following an evaluation of its needs and after trialing several online learning platforms — including LinkedIn Learning, Pluralsight, and Coursera — Ciklum selected Udemy Business to form the heart of its L&D program.
From day one, Liubov noticed the platform’s benefits, with her team providing access to the latest technical skills courses to help ensure the company’s developers never miss a beat. “We wanted to increase our employee value proposition, so the obvious answer was to provide a majority of the company with access to Udemy Business,” says Liubov. “Happily, the adoption rate of the platform immediately soared, with people completing thousands of hours of courses. What’s more, it put us in the best possible position to effectively manage L&D during COVID-19 homeworking.”
In fact, Ciklum’s L&D team launched its “Make Time To Learn” campaign at the start of the pandemic, encouraging employees to continue learning at home and even try courses in soft skills and hobbies — making them feel supported and less isolated. And “make time to learn’ during their free time they did, logging an impressive 24K+ hrs of Udemy learning over 2021 alone.
Fast reskilling across thousands of technical competencies
Supported by self-driven learning paths and regular mentor check-ins, Ciklum’s developers can now quickly reskill across countless competencies — including AWS, Azure, JS, Java, .NET, GoLang and Snowflake Data Cloud Academy — helping the company respond to, and even anticipate its clients’ needs.
And crucially, keep it one step ahead of the competition. And it’s not just the company that benefits from the changes. Ciklum’s employees now have far greater control over their career progression and which direction to take. “In addition to creating learning paths based on the company’s future needs, we’re also keen to impress on people how Udemy Business can help them drive their career development,” says Liubov. “With content curated by our people based on specific roles, certifications, and recommendations, we now have access to an ocean of knowledge, giving everyone the freedom to choose their own direction.”

Giving people the freedom to carve their own career paths
The upshot of these changes is that as the global war for talent rages, Ciklum is well placed to retain and secure the best people across its operations by offering career development and support designed around individuals’ needs — not just those of the company.
From courses in AWS and Microsoft Azure to communication, languages, diversity and inclusion training, Ciklum now has access to over 11,000 carefully curated courses (6.5K in English) hosted by leaders in their fields and preferred language. “Our team loves the fact that world-renowned experts put together many of the courses, something they wouldn’t have otherwise had access to — little wonder we have a 4.6 average course rating out of 5,” says Liubov. “And Udemy’s customer success managers couldn’t be more helpful. We regularly talk about our needs and bounce ideas off each other. They’ve even put us in touch with like-minded companies for inspiration.”
100% user adoption and 20 learner hours per user on average
Another way Liubov and her team continue to get the most out of Udemy Business is through the platform’s detailed metrics dashboard, offering deep-dive insights into usage and trends. Ciklum now boasts a 100% adoption rate across thousands of employees, with an impressive 54,400 hours of consumed courseware, averaging 20 hours per user since launching Udemy.
“Due to the platform’s efficiency and its ability to help us keep pace with the latest technical skills, Udemy Business has offered a good return on investment for us,” says Liubov. “We can now upskill our people better and quicker than before in a more structured way. And while we initially wanted to improve L&D access for more junior staff, everyone in the company feels the benefit. It exceeded our expectations.”

Continuously reviewing the state of play to boost competitive advantage
With plans to continue growing platform engagement through new education programs, Liubov’s team is going from strength to strength, improving L&D access across a large, global team and keeping Ciklum ahead of the competition.
“At Ciklum, we never stand still. We’re always looking for new ways to improve how we make the most of Udemy Business,” says Liubov. “For anyone looking to adopt the platform, my advice is to ensure you market its benefits internally and make it something people want to use. It’s worked for us, and we’ve never looked back.”
