Challenge: Raising retention and lowering costs <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

InnoWave is a growing company with a young workforce. At the start of 2020, it had a high attrition rate, impacting the company\u2019s efficiency, costs, and HR workload, restricting innovation and growth. At that time, employee development was managed in person at the company\u2019s offices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was incredibly difficult to manage employee development when we were carrying it out in person at the company\u2019s offices,\u201d says Andr\u00e9 Gon\u00e7alves, InnoWaveChief Strategy Officer and People & Culture Director at InnoWave. \u201cIt was a costly, admin- heavy task with many scheduling challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When COVID-19 hit, the company\u2019s leadership team realized they had to make a change to their employee development approach to continue adding value. To do this, they searched for an online learning platform that would enable InnoWave to deliver a wide variety of training courses at scale to meet the needs of a hybrid workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The platform needed to deliver soft skills as well as technical skills, and integrate easily with its internal academy program, called University, to ensure cultural consistency across its offices in six countries. InnoWave also wanted to capitalize on opportunities to grow resources such as personnel, and technology to help it compete more effectively with other companies for potential contracts and qualified personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To implement the platform throughout the company, Andr\u00e9\u2019s team categorized its people\u2019s skills and defined different levels of expertise creating five Learning Paths to provide a structured way to learn. They created the internal role of Tech Champions, who were responsible to select relevant Udemy Business courses that meet the requirements for each level.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9 says: \u201cAfter that, it was very easy to create the career paths \u2014 using the Learning Paths feature \u2014 and implement them.\u201d<\/p>\n

With help from Udemy Business\u2019s International Collection, their global workforce has access to experts and practitioners with content in their native language, building confidence and knowledge, resulting in greater engagement, collaboration, and retention.<\/p>\n

Learning for Success: Technical, Managerial, and Soft Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n

AWS and Java certifications, as well as quality assurance, have been the most soughtafter courses. Since implementing Udemy Business, more employees are studying, and certifications have increased. \u201cMuch of our success with certifications is due to Udemy and the Learning Paths we created,\u201d says Andr\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the company has employed Udemy Business to provide managerial training and soft skills, which not only allows employees to advance their careers but also to contribute to the company\u2019s expansion. Communication is among the most popular courses at InnoWave and employees are guided by Learning Paths to become familiar with the company\u2019s culture, strategy, operational model, and how to communicate internally and externally to ensure company-wide consistency.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9 believes that having a platform for digital learning helps to ensure that employees are all speaking the same language, and that everyone has access to the same information and training materials. This helps to create a consistent culture and allows employees to make decisions based on a shared responsibility.<\/p>\n

Since deploying Udemy Business, InnoWave has seen a huge reduction in attrition rate, from 25% to 18%. Andr\u00e9 attributes some of this success to Udemy Business: \u201cOne of the reasons why we\u2019re retaining more talent is because of the learning opportunities offered by Udemy and its ease of use.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reduced attrition rate has resulted in \u20ac300,000 of cost savings from improved recruitment and HR operations efficiency. Additionally, the decreased workload has had an additional positive effect, according to Andr\u00e9: \u201cThe HR team has an easily manageable workload and experiences reduced stress. This has opened up the opportunity for us to pursue valuable initiatives, such as the University concept, which wouldn\u2019t have been possible without these savings.\u201d<\/p>\n

InnoWave\u2019s ability to upskill their teams allowed them to reach new heights and deliver on new projects. They unlocked a major contract with a leading telecom company, created a start-up on NFT to help charities and NGOs, and partnered with the Portugal Tennis Cup to launch a new app.<\/p>\n
