Nurtures Talent with Online Learning, Saving $500K for the Business
eProcess, a subsidiary of the Ecobank Group, is one of the biggest driving forces in financial services technology innovations in Africa. As such, it recognizes the importance of employee L&D in continually pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and staying ahead of the competition across 36 countries.
As COVID-19 threatened to halt the company’s well-established L&D program, eProcess’ training and talent performance team looked to Udemy Business’ online learning platform. This helped ensure its people not only had uninterrupted access to skills development courses but also had a greater range of opportunities available — all while cutting L&D costs.
Challenge: Overhauling post-pandemic transnational training
Behind every success story are years of hard work. In eProcess’ case, it’s the company’s comprehensive employee learning and development (L&D) program, where nurturing internal talent is one of the company’s biggest strategic priorities.
When pandemic travel restrictions and remote working mandates came into force, eProcess realized it needed to rethink its approach to training — quickly. “Before the pandemic, a lot of our training took place at our group’s offices across Africa,” says Dr. Tomisin Fashina, Managing Director at eProcess International. “Restrictions meant that our people could no longer travel to attend in-person training sessions. With so many people depending on our L&D program — coupled with our commitment to a culture of learning — we had to look for a suitable alternative.”
What’s more, eProcess had a strategic budget plan to reduce the cost of its L&D program while improving the quality and breadth of its course offering and employee support. And the pandemic wasn’t the only catalyst for change. eProcess’ strategic position within Ecobank means that its people need to stay at the forefront of technology and cybersecurity developments — keeping their skills sharp and helping the bank maintain its competitive edge.
The business needed a flexible online-based L&D solution that could offer the broad range of hard and soft skills courses, while also allowing employees to study whenever and wherever best suits their learning styles and schedules.
Solution: High-quality online L&D —without breaking the bank
With the right solution needing to be flexible, scalable, and offer multiplatform accessibility, eProcess’ L&D team set about testing the market. “We trialed several solutions over a few months to see how each solution coped with the demands of our business,” says Effe Winful, Head of Talent, Learning and Organizational Design at eProcess. “It soon became clear that only Udemy Business could offer the wide-ranging courses we needed to keep our skills sharp in a cost-effective way.” With courses available in English, French and Portuguese, the learning applies highly to the multilingual workforce.
